The University of Wisconsin men’s hockey team has a young lineup to open the 2017-18 season (2 p.m. Sunday, no TV, BTN Plus pay stream, 1070 AM).
The Badgers have six freshmen — three forwards and three defensemen — among their 18 skaters against Michigan Tech in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game at the Kohl Center.
UW has just one win in its last nine season openers (1-7-1), including a loss to Northern Michigan in coach Tony Granato’s debut last season.
This is the sixth time that the Badgers have played in the game benefitting the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in Eveleth, Minnesota. They’re 4-1 in the first five; the most recent was a 3-2 victory over Michigan at Camp Randall Stadium in 2010.
