Banned currency for Rs. 2.45 cr seized – KERALA

The police seized bundles of demonitised currency worth Rs. 2.45 crore from a gang at Perinthalmanna on Thursday. Six persons were arrested and an air pistol was recovered from them.

The arrested were Mohammed Anas, 39; Kannan Krishnakumar, 33; Mohammed Shan, 35; Maruthavila Achu, 26; Ansaruddin, 37; and Abdul Nazar, 29.

Whereas Nazar belonged to Areekode, the others hailed from Thiruvananthapuram.

The banned currency bundles were hidden in two cars. A police team headed by Dy.SP M.P. Mohanchandran and Inspector T.S. Binu trapped the gang on the basis of a tipoff.

The police had effected similar seizures at Perinthalmanna recently. Banned notes worth Rs. 12 crore have so far been seized at Perinthalmanna.
