Benjamin Mendy has taken to social media to tease the Manchester City fans about a possible transfer after the Citizens had a £44.5million bid rejected for the full-back.
Monaco snubbed the Premier League outfit’s approach for the France international, telling them they want a figure in the Kyle Walker ballpark.
Pep Guardiola’s men parted with an eye-watering £54million in total to sign the right-back from Tottenham, making him the most expensive defender in history.
Since news of the rejected bid surfaced on Thursday, Mendy remained silent. But the 23-year-old has since taken to Twitter to post a cryptic message.
The post contains a picture of the man himself holding a finger to his lips. Alongside the image Mendy has included three ‘zipped-mouthed’ emojis.
The tweet doesn’t give too much away, other than the full-back indicating he is not willing to discuss his future as things stand.
But that hasn’t stopped Manchester City fans, convinced their club will find the extra cash to make the deal happen, jumping to conclusions.
One Citizens supporter tweeted: “Manchester tomorrow?” along with a wink emoji, while another fan said: “Welcome to City.”
Monaco are expected to sell Mendy if City meet the price, but could face late competition from Chelsea who have been asked to be kept informed of the progress.
Chelsea had gone for Juventus left back Alex Sandro, but the deal stalled with the Italians reluctant to sell. For now, City remain in pole position.
