Beverly native and University of Louisville rising senior Nicole Woods helped USA Field Hockey to the FIH World League Semifinal title Sunday at Wits University in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The championship bout featured a second-straight shootout victory for sixth-ranked USWNT, which rallied late to tie the score in the final minutes before prevailing in a shootout against England in the semifinals. They then went on to top No. 7 ranked Germany in the title match.
The midfielder Woods logged six minutes off the bench in the finals and played in all seven games throughout the tournament for a total of 40 minutes. Since being added to the USWNT roster for the series against Ireland in May 2017, Woods has collected nine caps. She was a member of the USA Field Hockey’s Under 21 team since the spring of 2016.
As a team, USWNT’s tournament performance secured them a spot in the 2018 Women’s Hockey World Cup in London.
