MCCARRAN, Nev. (KOLO) A ceremonial ribbon cutting was held on Monday for the extension of USA Parkway that will connect Interstate 80 to US 50.
The $75 million project began last year, and after more than a year of work by NDOT and crews with Ames Construction, the road is finally ready for traffic, though it won’t see any until early September.
Monday’s ribbon cutting was held about halfway between the two highways which the road connects, and featured remarks from Governor Brian Sandoval and other government officials.
Considering USA Parkway is the road that those traveling to the Tesla Gigafactory take to get there, it was fitting, that as part of the ceremony three Teslas drove the road to signify its completion.
The project required the excavation of two million cubic yards of earth and 566,000 square yards of hot mix asphalt paving was installed, enough to cover 88 football fields.
