DETROIT — DTE Energy on Thursday opened a new public space outside the utility’s headquarters, with a weekend full of planned festivities planned.
Beacon Park was launched with a ribbon cutting, and will host several events with music, art, games, dance, Yoga and more throughout the weekend.
“We are excited to bring a vibrant and engaging park to this part of the city,” DTE Chairman Gerry Anderson said in a news release. “The music, art, food and games offered at Beacon Park are projected to attract a million visitors a year and serve as a catalyst for development in west central downtown.”
The park, operated by Downtown Detroit Partnership, will host about 50 activities and performances throughout the grand opening weekend.
Some of the musical acts scheduled to perform include: Lord Huron, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, and Plena Libre. On Thursday and Friday, after-work parties will take place at Beacon Park, featuring entertainment and 25 boutiques in a night market.
A screening of “Back to the Future” will take place on Sunday on a large movie screen.
“We’ve planned a weekend that has something for everybody because that is what Beacon Park is all about,” Anderson said in a news release.
