SPRINGFIELD, NJ – Hobby Lobby, an Oklahoma City-based national chain that describes itself as an “arts and crafts store that also sells fabric, and home décor,” is preparing to open in Springfield, occupying the large retail space formerly occupied by Sports Authority at 295 Route 22 East.
A Hobby Lobby corporate spokesman said the store would open at 9 a.m. on Labor Day, September 4, adding that there will be an opening day celebration with refreshments served.
Hobby Lobby operates more than 750 locations in 47 states. According to its website, the company is on track to open 60 new stores this year and they expect that to create more than 2,000 additional jobs for a company that employees 10,000 full-time employees and 10,000 part-time employees. At Hobby Lobby, a full-time employee earns at least $15.70 per hour, and a part-time employee earns $10.45 an hour.
