The Emporia Energy 16U softball squad went 4-1 during two days of pool play at the Heartland World Series in Kansas City, Missouri, Thursday and Friday. The Energy split play on Thursday, going 1-1, but swept its three games on Friday.
Against the St. Jo Kryptonite on Friday, Emporia tallied 13 runs in just three innings of play to claim a lopsided victory. Paige Thomas and Lexi Davis combined to go 4-for-6 with five RBIs on the afternoon.
Andi Wilson gave up just one run in three innings of work, picking up the victory in the circle.
In the second game of the day, the Energy fell to the Sluggers Fastpitch- Orange by a 3-2 final. A two-run third inning proved to be too much as Emporia got an RBI each from Thomas and Mya Chapman.
Saturday, Emporia claimed a clean sweep, starting with a 13-1 victory over TNT-16. The Energy then hung on for a 6-4 win over the Chase County Explosion and finished with an 11-5 win over the 3N2 Force.
Emporia will open bracket play at 11 a.m. Saturday as the number one seed against the Topeka Storm Thunder.
