Facebook and Instagram went down for millions this afternoon as they complained of being unable to access the social media sites.
People experienced problems logging onto Facebook, sending messages or ‘liking’ posts and pictures.
Others reported a ‘total blackout’ meaning the site wouldn’t load or they were unable to log in to their accounts.

The problem began at 2.15pm this afternoon but was fixed around 3.30pm
According to UK site DownDetector, which collects reports of website crashes, the problems on Facebook began at around 2.15pm on Saturday.
At its peak there were more than 1,869 reports of people experiencing problems getting onto the website.
Some Facebook users were told the website was undergoing ‘required maintenance’.
Others reported being faced with a message that read: ‘Facebook Will Be Back Soon. Thanks for your patience as we improve the site.’
Thousands of people took to Twitter to report the issue and make light of the issue with mock-dramatic tweets.
Others reported difficulties using the Facebook Messenger app and Instagram, which saw problems at around the same time.
Instagram users were left seeing a page reading: ‘Oops, an error occurred.’
The technical problems appeared to be resolved for many users shortly before 3.30pm.
Earlier this week Facebook was hit by another major outage which left users unable to access the site.
