First ever Sturgis Street Food Throwdown is in the books

STURGIS, SD (KOTA TV) – When you are walking around Sturgis, many people have trouble deciding where to eat when there are a variety of food vendors to choose from.

Well Thursday’s Street Food Throwdown competition may help you a little bit.

It was the first competition of its kind but the Sturgis mayor hopes to make it bigger and better every year from now on.

Boe Bear’s Simple Goodness Desert truck won the best of the best award and best dessert.

Celebrity Food Judge, Ray “Dr. BBQ” Lampe, announced the winner of the grand prize, “So the overall winner was Boe Bear’s for that pecan caramel cinnamon roll thing. She’s over there and she doesn’t even know it yet.”

After winning best desert and Jlynn Bear was celebrating with her family and had no clue she also won the best of show award which means she is able to come back to next year’s rally free of charge.

Bear is from Piedmont and just got her food truck three weeks ago and I guess you could say beginners luck was on her side along with some amazing baking skills.

Owner and operator of Boe Bear’s Simple Goodness Desert Truck, Jlynn Bear, says “I had forgotten how much fun I had doing it when I had a truck and then I help my brother who owns his own food truck during one of the events and then I just remember how much I loved it so I went looking for another food truck and I didn’t want to do food because everybody does food so I decided to open a dessert truck.”

There were four prizes you could win and the Sidewalk Chefs won best entree with their German sausage and the Badger State Curds won best side dish with their cheese curds.
