A former Miss Indiana USA winner, born and raised in Michiana, became Mrs. America Saturday night.
Mekayla Eppers (then Diehl), of Bristol, was named Miss Indiana USA 2014. She then went on to compete for Miss USA 2014, where she placed in the top 20.
During the Miss USA pageant, she was praised for having what many called a “normal” body. She is also of Native American descent and a survivor of sexual abuse, two things she discussed with NewsCenter 16’s Tricia Sloma back in 2014.
In the time since, Eppers has launched a fitness program and gotten married, the latter qualifying her to become Mrs. America 2018, which she did Saturday night.
