Aurangabad: Amid the reports of rampant violation of the Essential Commodities Act in the city limits, the crime branch of the city police have registered cases against four suspects for allegedly using domestic LPG cylinders in autorickshaws.

The illegal activity came to the fore when a team led by Nandkumar Bhandare, sub-inspector of the Kranti Chowk police station, raided the two spots in Sillekhana and Konkanwadi areas of the city on Tuesday.

The crime branch team raided Sillekhana area and nabbed Aftab Altaf Qureshi (28), who was carrying out the illegal business posing as a civic-run shop owner.

During the raid, the police arrested autorickshaw driver Vitthal Radhakishan Kharat (33) of Jai Bhavani Nagar and seized an autorickshaw and other articles used for refilling the cylinders.

Police arrested Imad Khan Umar Khan (33) of Kokanwadi along with autorickshaw driver Shaikh Azmat of Husain Colony, while the duo was refilling an autorickshaw storage tank using a domestic LPG cylinder. The police also seized the autorickshaw.
