Aug 24 (Reuters) – Total global commodity assets under management (AUM) rose $20 billion in July to $291 billion from June, the highest level since late 2013, Barclays said in a note on Thursday. The rise in the AUM was driven by flows into index swaps, where inflows during July totaled $17 billion. Over the course of July, inflows into the commodities segment totaled $13.4 billion, Barclays said, adding that higher commodity prices also contributed roughly $6 billion to asset values month on month in July. In July and August, the broader metals complex has outperformed other commodity groups, while agriculture and livestock were the worst performing sub-indexes, Barclays said. The following is a breakdown of commodities AUM, according to Barclays (all figures in billions of dollars): July June May Q1 Q4 2017 2017 2017 2017 2016 Total Commodity AUM 291 271 278 278 265 Precious Metals 124 126 125 123 110 Base Metals 27 23 23 24 23 Agriculture 54 47 49 49 44 Energy 85 75 81 80 88 July June May Q1 Q4 2017 2017 2017 2017 2016 Total Commodity AUM 291 271 278 278 265 Estimate of index swaps 142 118 127 127 126 Exchange-traded products 141 146 143 142 131 Medium-term notes 7.3 7.4 7.8 8.1 8.5 (Reporting by Nallur Sethuraman in Bengaluru)
