Group seeks to end youth unemployment through entrepreneurship, vocational training

Vocational skills and entrepreneurship as been described as one of the major solutions to unemployment and poverty in the nation of Nigeria.

This statement was made by a non-profit group, the Young Progressive Nigerians Initiative (YPNI) at the end of its annual general meeting held in Lagos, the group Convener, Adekunle Osibogun said its organization, which recently trained over 500 youths in Ogun State on various vocational skills, was founded with mission to promote entrepreneurship and patriotism among young Nigerians.

Charging on all youths from 18 and above to register in order to vote and be voted for, the National Coordinator of the group, Mr Mammud Yakubu said that it is time for young men embedded with skills and managerial acumen to take over the baton of leadership.

Reinstating the position of the group on panacea to unemployment in Nigeria, Osibogun opined that instead of pursuing white-collar jobs that were in short supply, youths should consistently embrace vocational skills and entrepreneurship, stressing that government alone cannot provide jobs for the citizenry.

“While governments at all tiers are implored to tame the surge of unemployment and joblessness that is currently booming like wave of ocean in our nation, however, as an organization that had trained and still training young Nigerians on entrepreneurship and vocational skills, we call on our fellow youths to learn one skills or the other in order to be self sustenance instead of looking for white collar jobs that are not available.”

On insecurity, all the members of group unanimously called federal government to look into the activities of insurgency group, Boko haram in north east whom they argued was gaining more strength, urging security agencies to nip in the bud, the frequent clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers which they said had become a threat to food security in the country.

YPNI also announced that the second batch of training on entrepreneurship organized by the organization for unemployed youths in Ogun State shall be commencing in the second week of October.

The training, according to the communication manager of the group, Mr Maxwell Awdeyemi Adeleye, will focus on skills such as beads and craft making, events and decoration, fashion design, catering services and shoe making.
