Rockport residents and hurricane victims had the chance to meet, Instagram and tweet about George Strait on Thursday.

The King of Country joined Governor Greg Abbott  to speak to those on the Texas Coast affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Fans started posting up-close-and-personal experiences with the music icon and the politician shortly after the event started at 10 a.m. outside an ACE Hardware store.

This is the second time Abbott and Strait, a Poteet native, linked up for hurricane relief efforts this month. Abbott supported Strait’s Hand in Hand concert at the Majestic Theater on Sept. 12., which helped raise more than $20 million.

On Wednesday, Abbott extended the State Disaster Declaration for counties hit by Harvey. Those 60 counties, including Aransas, will continue to be eligible for help as they recover, according to a news release.

“As Texans continue to recover from this storm, I want make it absolutely clear that the State of Texas will be there every step of the way,”Abbott said in a release. “This disaster declaration extension will help ensure affected communities continue to get the resources they need to rebuild and return to full operation. Although the road to recovery will be long, Texas is fully committed to doing everything we can to assist those in need along the way.”
