Lily Farden from Hingham, and Casey O’Brien of Milton have been selected to compete for the U.S. Women’s Under-18 Select Team in a three-game series against Canada.
Lily Farden, a defenseman from Hingham, and forward Casey O’Brien of Milton have been selected to compete for the 2017 U.S. Women’s Under-18 Select Team in a three-game series against Canada this week at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, New York.
Farden and O’Brien, recent teammates at Noble & Greenough, were among 31 players (28 skaters) invited by USA Hockey to the USA Hockey Women’s National Festival, which ran last Tuesday through Sunday in Lake Placid. They’re among 22 players (20 skaters, two goalies) who made it onto the U18 Select Team.
Farden, a Harvard University commit who turns 17 on Aug. 22, will be a junior next season at Noble & Greenough. O’Brien, who turns 16 on Aug. 27, will play next season as a sophomore at Shattuck St. Mary’s in Faribault, Minnesota, with plans to attend the University of Wisconsin upon graduation.
The USA-Canada series opens with a 6 p.m. game on Thursday. The teams meet again at 5 p.m. Friday, and wrap up the series with a 9:30 a.m. game on Sunday.
The series against Canada has been held each August since 2007. Team USA holds a 12-1-3-14 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record.
