Hunt to spot young entrepreneurs on | Nagpur News

Nagpur: An awareness drive is being conducted in Vidarbha to identify young entrepreneurs and startups and present those deserving with the National Entrepreneurship Award this year.

Dr Ambedkar Institute of Management Studies and Research (DAIMSR), in collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), has taken up this task and held a press conference at Deekshabhoomi on Tuesday.

Satyajit Majumdar, professor and chairperson at TISS’s Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, told the media that the awards intend to reach out to as many people as possible. “We believe there is a lot of potential in Nagpur and Vidarbha when it comes to new businesses and ideas,” he said.

“The awards were instituted by the Union ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship in 2016. Its aim was to create an encouraging environment for entrepreneurship in India. However, it was only limited to major cities in India,” said Majumdar.

“For this year, the ministry decided to broaden the scope of the awards and collaborated with seven leading institutions in the country. TISS has been mandated to use its network of institutions to reach out to remote places in the country,” he said.

There will be 17 awards and six recognitions which will be offered to enterprises and institutions in different sectors in goods and services. Recognitions will also be presented to educationists, advisors and mentors from government and private sectors. Cash prizes of Rs5 lakhs and Rs10 lakhs will be awarded to winning individuals and organizations, respectively.

For this year’s awards, the age limit for eligibility is 30 years, as on January 1, for general category and 35 years for candidates in scheduled caste/tribes and persons with disability. Eligible candidates can apply online on www.neas.gov.in and can contact on special helpline number 8329211347 for information. The last day for applications is September 15.

Individuals and organizations will be scrutinized by the members from the seven partner institutes, including TISS. The winners will be awarded at a ceremony in New Delhi on November 9.
