The Couple: Maronia & Anthony
20 August 2016
Maronia, 27 years, salesgirl and Anthony, 32 years, fitter held their wedding mass at St George’s Basilica in Victoria, Gozo before a reception at Villa Fiorita, Marsalforn
Maronia and Anthony have known each other since they were teenagers; they used to form part of the same group of friends. They used to meet regularly at the hairdresser where Maronia worked at the time. However, their love flourished while at a farmhouse party they both attended. They decided to expand their family before getting married and were blessed with two beautiful children.
Anthony surprised Maronia one Christmas Eve with a magical proposal. “After a night out with all the family, the kids were asleep and Anthony asked me to go out on terrace, it was lit up with tea lights and roses. He went down on one knee and proposed, obviously I said yes”, said Maronia.
They tied the knot on August 20 last year 2016; the theme for their wedding was diamonds and flowers that go very well for a summer wedding, adding that extra sparkle and magical feeling to the night. Flowers from Xerri’s Garden Centre were used to decorate both the church and the reception. The wedding planner, Carmelino Refalo, made sure that everything went according to the plan, which of course was a success.
The church of choice was St George’s Basilica in Victoria, Gozo. “After the ceremony we had a pre-reception at St George’s Basilica Square”. Maronia walked down the aisle wearing a white off-the-shoulder mermaid dress, beaded throughout, from Ivory & Co and Anthony wore a classic man’s suit from Cefai Formal Wear.
The reception was then held at Villa Fiorita, Marsalforn. They chose the venue because its dimensions made it perfect to cater for all their guests and also because of its elegance. The night sparkled with fireworks and with music by Red Electric, followed by the renowned DJ Commander Jay. Cocktails were severed throughout the night by D Cocktail bar to add a splash of colour for a perfect summer evening. They also had a photo booth at the wedding reception where guests could take photos of themselves; this was definitely one thing to look forward to, after the wedding they would have various memories that they will treasure forever.
“The highlight of the wedding was at midnight. It was my birthday and my daughter came out with a birthday cake, while Anthony surprised me with a cruise vacation for all the family”, Maronia told us. They had a great time on a Mediterranean cruise together with their children for their honeymoon.
