The goalmouth tactics of El Salvador during their 2-0 defeat by the USA have ruffled feathers in the Altidore household.
Ex-Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore’s girlfriend was apparently left ‘mad’ after El Salvador defender Henry Romero bit her man during the Gold Cup clash.
There were two separate biting incidents in heated clash in Philadelphia, with Salvadorean captain Darwin Cerin also getting his teeth stuck into USA defender Omar Gonzalez.

Romero’s bite on Altidore appears to have caused the bigger ripple after he told reporters post-match: ‘My girl’s mad at me. She’s mad at me. She’s mad at Romero, because she’s like: “Only I can bite you, only I can grab your nipples”.’
The 27-year-old later added: ‘It’s never happened before, but in Concacaf, it never ceases to amaze me. You got to keep your cool. I shouldn’t be saying these things happen, but they do.’
USA beat El Salvador, with Gonzalez scoring the opener, to move into the semi final of the Gold Cup on Thursday morning.
The biting incidents, reminiscent of Luis Suarez’s mouthy indiscretions, overshadowed the win but were perhaps worth it for Altidore revealing to the press what his girlfriend does with his nipples.

Altidore’s bite came first, in the 67th minute, when Romero sunk his teeth into the striker’s left shoulder and then twisted his nipple at corner. Altidore fell to the ground before getting up to angrily confront Romero.
Though that was not the end of the controversy. Goalscorer Gonzalez also received the same treatment from Cerin in the 81st minute.
During another set-piece corner Gonzalez felt his opponent biting his left shoulder before screaming to the referee.
He clutched his shoulder before saying after the game: ‘I was a bit shocked.’
The incidents are similar to Luiz Suarez’s bite on Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup
Referee Drew Fischer did not punish either El Salvador players, although Romero was booked earlier in the game.
The remarkable incidents are similar to what Suarez – who received a four-month ban – did to Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup.
The former Liverpool striker was also guilty of biting Branislav Ivanovic in a league match against Chelsea.
