A Luxembourg initiative which strives
to empower female entrepreneurs by financing the creation or
expansion of their start-ups has funded projects around the world.
Sparkles.lu, a non-profit organisation,
was founded three years ago and grants microcredits via microfinance
platforms to women.
Since its creation the association has
helped more than 200 women and so far this year has funded 26
projects, including a 29-year-old single mother from Liberia who
sells water and prepares food for her community, a Kenyan woman who,
through her clothing business, hopes she can provide education for
her children, and a Columbian mother who owns a restaurant.
To help raise more funds to be able to
support additional projects, the association, led by president Maud
Majerus, is holding a golf tournament in Luxembourg on September 29.
The group’s volunteers also take part in a number of events around the Grand-Duchy, such as Woman Entrepreneurship Day and International Women’s Day.
