Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph’s hot start to 2017 has put him firmly in the Heisman Trophy conversation.
USA TODAY ranks Rudolph No. 2 on its Heisman survery behind current favorite Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield through three weeks of the season.
“Sooners QB Baker Mayfield is far and above the early leader taking 18 of 19 first-place nods from reporters and editors who work for properties own by Gannett, parent company of USA TODAY,” USA TODAY Sports writer Thomas O’Toole wrote. “Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph is a solid second.”
Rudolph earned 12 second-place votes and three third-place votes with no first-place nods.
The Oklahoma State senior has led the Cowboys to a 3-0 start with a win over Tulsa and two road wins at South Alabama and Pittsburgh. The team currently ranks No. 6 in the Associated Press Top 25.
He’s amassed 1,135 yards passing and thrown 11 touchdowns and 1 interception.
Rudolph and the Cowboys face TCU, Saturday, at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
