Muddled up formations plus the return of the infamous grey kit

Football is a rapidly growing sport in the US but it is clear the sport’s finer details, like formations, are still lost on some in the country. And so there was the curious sight before Manchester United kicked off against derby rivals Manchester City at the NRG Stadium in Houston on Friday of the players’ positions being horribly muddled up as the formations were projected on giant screens. 

Midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, for example, was deployed at centre half while goalkeeper Ederson Moraes was positioned at left back and defender Tosin Adarabioyo instead stationed between the posts. To be fair, though, had Adarabioyo been in goal, it is debatable he would have made the same hash of things as Ederson did for United’s first goal. 

The Brazilian could end up becoming a first rate goalkeeper for City but these were inauspicious beginnings as he raced needlessly out of the penalty area to try…
