A new not-for-profit energy supplier has switched more than 1,000 households in Scotland to its new fixed-term tariff aimed at providing ‘fair-priced’ gas and electricity.
Our Power, based in Edinburgh, launched the tariff aimed at helping people get a good, low-cost deal.
They say customers with an average energy consumption will save over £200 per year on the 12-month fixed-term tariff.
It also offers the same price whether customers pay be direct debit or pay as you go.
The tariff – among the top ten lowest in Scotland – is the first of a number of new innovations and products Our Power is aiming to introduce this autumn.
The firm was launched in 2016 by social housing providers to make energy fairer.
It now has over 40 employees based in Edinburgh, with ambitious growth plans in the coming months. The company is 100 per cent asset-locked, with all surpluses generated reinvested to benefit its customers and their communities.
Our Power chair and co-founder Alister Steele said: “Our Power was born out of a desire to offer a different choice in the energy market.
“By removing the focus on maximising profits and shareholder dividends we can concentrate on delivering tariffs for consumers with the emphasis on fairness.
“Our fixed rate tariff for all customers is this principle in action – by not penalising those who choose to opt for ‘Pay As You Go’.
“We also want our existing customers to have the same deal and we have reduced our tariff prices to our existing customers, so that they are charged the same price as new customers on our fixed rate.
“We think this is fair and this lives up to our values.”
