“The free Pre-recruitment Coaching for PwDs will boost their representation in various government jobs like banking, Staff Selection Commission (SSC), OSSC, Railway and insurance,” said secretary Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) department, Nitin Chandra.
He said, graduate unemployment PwDs should apply on the department website for pre-recruitment coaching, in which selected PwDs will be provided three months free coaching to enable them for recruitment examinations.
Besides, a Modern Career Library with grant of 50 lakhs will also be set up in the premises of National Career Service Centre for Differently Abled (NCSCDA), Gandamunda. Both the coaching centre and the library will start functioning from September, 2017, Chandra added.
As many as 16 PwDs qualified Odisha Civil Services Examination last year. However, the number of students from Odisha qualifying national level recruitment exams is less compared to other states.
“At a time 90 students will be selected for the free coaching where they will be provided free accommodation and fooding facility. The coaching will be provided in three different categories for hearing impaired, visually impaired and locomotive disabled,” said R K Sharma, assistant director, Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped (VRCH), Bhubaneswar.
State Commissioner for PwDs, Minati Behera said “The Rights of PwD Act 2016 stipulates that at least 4% reservation in government jobs, 5% reservation in higher education and inclusion of PwDs in mainstream through skill development and vocational training programs. The Act has severe penalty provisions for non-compliance of the Act and commission will keep a close watch on its implementation.”
A valedictory function of the skill development training of PwDs was held at the VRCH on Monday. As many as 315 PwDs including 117 female have been trained in various skills such as Electrician Domestic, Accounts Assistant using Tally, Basic Sewing Operator (Tailor), Beauty Therapy & Hair Styling, Repair & Maintenance of Personal Electronic Devices at VRCH. Toolkit to 126 number of successful trainees of Basic Sewing Operator (Tailor) and 78 from Electrician Domestic, 9 of Repair & maintenance of Personal Electronic Device and 6 of Beauty Therapy & Hair Styling training were also distributed during the year, which will encourage them to use to set up their own start-ups, official sources said.
