Ohio State men’s basketball | Torrence Watson reopens his recruitment – Sports – The Columbus Dispatch

Torrence Watson, Ohio State’s lone verbal commitment for the class of 2018, has reopened his recruitment.

A native of St. Louis, Watson posted a message to Twitter this afternoon announcing his plans.

“For person and family reasons I am re-opening my recruitment and potentially considering options closer to home,” he wrote. “At this time I will be declining interviews and ask that you respect the privacy of both my family and I. Thank you.”

A four-star prospect, Watson is ranked as the No. 68 overall recruit in the class of 2018 by ESPN. He picked Ohio State over Missouri in mid-July and had a solid summer on the AAU circuit.

The decision regarding the situation for the 6-5, 180-pound Watson was reached mutually between the prospect and the Ohio State coaching staff, The Dispatch has learned.

The Buckeyes have five scholarships available for next season assuming former walk-on Joey Lane remains on scholarship for his senior season. Coach Chris Holtmann was known to be in the market for two more guards and a stretch-big man prior to Watson’s decision, and more than a dozen prospects have official visits scheduled within the next seven weeks.
