Most who follow Nebraska high school basketball have known about Shereef Mitchell for some time. More colleges are starting to take notice, too.
The Omaha Burke standout — ranked No. 3 in the 2018 class — received his first Division I scholarship offer from UNO on April 29, and he’s seen his recruitment pick up since the start of the July recruiting period.
Mitchell and his OSA 17U Adidas teammates had a good showing last weekend with a 3-1 record at the Adidas Gauntlet Finale in Spartansburg, South Carolina. On Saturday, July 15, Mitchell received his second Division I offer from LIU Brooklyn.
“Shereef has been a nightmare for opponents on both sides of the ball,” said Bob Franzese, Mitchell’s AAU coach. “He is considered to be one of the top on-ball defenders in the Midwest, does a great job of making plays for teammates and has the ability to score in multiple ways.”
In addition to his two offers, South Dakota State, Bradley and Loyola Chicago have all expressed interest. He continues to hear from South Dakota and Creighton as well.
Mitchell will play this weekend in Wichita, Kansas, at the Mullens Invitational with OSA 17U Adidas. He said he’d let the next two weeks of the July evaluation period play out before he sets up official visits.
“I will start thinking about official visit dates after July,” Mitchell said. “LIU Brooklyn, South Dakota State, UNO and South Dakota all want me to take official visits.”
