Safety Divine Deablo out for season, CB Adonis Alexander’s status ‘uncertain’

The No. 12-ranked Virginia Tech football team got some bad news Monday as it prepares for its clash this weekend with No. 2 Clemson.

Safety Divine Deablo is out for the season with an unspecified injury, according to Virginia Tech coach Justin Fuente. Ricky LaBlue, a Virginia Tech beat writer for, was the first to tweet the news.

Fuente said that Deablo will apply for a medical redshirt, which would give him three remaining years of eligibility.

Deablo had recorded 8 tackles and an interception this season. According to a depth chart released by the team Monday, Khalil Ladler likely will assume Deablo’s role moving forward.

Fuente also said that cornerback Adonis Alexander, who has been suspended for the team’s past two games because of an unspecified violation of team rules, will have his status for the matchup with Clemson determined during the week.
