South Australia energy plan: Port Augusta will be home to new $650 million solar thermal power plant

PORT Augusta will be home to a new $650 million solar thermal power plant, the State Government has announced.

SolarReserve will build the 150MW plant, creating an expected 650 construction jobs and 50 ongoing positions.

Construction is set to begin in 2018 and be complete by 2020.

Premier Jay Weatherill said the plant, to be known as the Aurora, would increase market competition and could lead to lower power prices.

Mr Weatherill said the plant would be the largest of its kind in the world would be able to supply “all of the Government’s power needs”.
