Syracuse, N.Y. — USA East Coast, a team made up of current college players including Syracuse’s Matthew Moyer, lost to the Venezuelan National team 70-56 on Friday in Madrid, Spain.
Moyer, a 6-foot-8 forward, scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds in the loss to Venezuela. Moyer’s point total seems low, but he tied for the team-high for USA East Coast in the low-scoring affair. Xavier’s Sean O’Mara also scored nine points. Notre Dame’s Austin Torres had a team-high seven rebounds.
Venezuela opened up a 20-3 lead over USA East Coast to the start the game. USA East Coast chipped away at the deficit, cutting Venezuela’s lead down to five points midway through the third quarter. However, USA East Coast was unable to complete the comeback.
USA East Coast finishes its tour of Spain with a 2-1 record. A game against Japan was canceled due to unknown reasons.
Moyer, a redshirt freshman, averaged 9.0 points per game on the trip. He also averaged 4.6 rebounds. More detailed statistics were not available.
