LANCASTER – A local bank branch will get a new name on Oct. 10.
The Community Bank will be called Unified Bank after that date. The bank is part of The Citizens Savings Bank/The Community Bank chain, which is changing the name of all its branches.
The company website lists Lancaster locations at 201 N. Columbus St., 1321 E. Main St. and a drive-up location at 218 W. Wheeling St.
The company is owned by United Bancorp, Inc. There are Citizens Bank locations in Belmont, Jefferson, Harrison, Carroll and Tuscarawas counties in Ohio and Ohio County in West Virginia.
The Community Bank line serves Athens County, along with its local branches.
The Citizens Savings Bank Chairman, CEO and President Scott A. Everson said there are 500 banks in the United States with either Citizens or Community in their name. He said that creates confusion and makes it difficult to stand apart from other banks.
“Therefore, we are doing something about it by becoming Unified Bank,” Everson said in a statement. “With our new name, we are the only commercial bank operating in this country with this new name. In addition, it nicely ties into the name of our parent company, United Bancorp, Inc., which has owned all of the stock of our bank since its formation in 1983.”
Everson said nothing else about the banking company and its branches is changing, only the name. He said the company will mail the details of the name change to its customers.
“In a nutshell, it should be business as usual for our customers,” Everson said. “They will continue dealing with a bank owned by the same ownership and seeing the same banking associates that they have come to know well.”
He also said the company plans to upgrade its digital operations to better serve customers.
“We firmly realize the reason why we are in business and that our continued success will be determined by how well we serve our valued clients and support the communities in which we operate,” Everson said.
