The corporate greed exhibited by the energy firm is totally repugnant as it boasts huge profits
THE British Gas price hike is a repugnant and indefensible display of corporate greed.
Forget its weaselly excuses. The bare facts are these: it has made £381million profit in six months.
The boss of its parent company Centrica gets £4million a year. All its biggest costs are falling.
The extra £76 a year it will extract from electricity customers is simple profiteering.
British Gas has clearly felt emboldened by the Government’s election fiasco, after which it scrapped action against the Big Six suppliers, including a price cap. This must be reinstated.
The Tories must be the consumers’ champion, starting here.
We see no reason to fear a Commons vote.
Why would Labour oppose a cap on bills? It was in their 2015 manifesto.
Meanwhile, if you are a British Gas customer, go online and switch today.
THE EU and Europhile politicians have betrayed voters for decades. How can we trust ours to carry out Brexit after a transition period?
The Irish and Danes opposed EU treaties only to be told to vote again to give Brussels the verdict it wanted.
The French and Dutch rejected a new EU constitution only for their MPs to sneakily back a revised version anyway.
We joined the Common Market after its true aims of economic, monetary and political union were kept quiet. As the EU’s Jean-Claude Juncker says: “When it becomes serious, you have to lie.”
The Sun understands the need for a strictly time-limited transition. A “cliff-edge” Brexit in 2019 worries us too. Businesses need certainty way before that.
But the majority who voted Leave need certainty too.
That this Government will not use a transition, or any short-term economic woes, to undermine the referendum result or reverse it with another.
What guarantee can they give us?

WHEN will Jeremy Corbyn finally defend socialism’s latest catastrophe? Is he stalling for time to polish his excuses?
Not long ago he praised Venezuela for showing the world a better way. Now its Corbynista-style politics and the oil price downturn has left its starving citizens eating their pets and living in fear.
Its President Maduro is a virtual dictator whose secret police kidnap dissenting politicians. Venezuela’s neighbours threaten to treat it as a “pariah” state.
Corbyn’s utopia is in flames. So much for being “on the right side of history”.
Labour veteran Ken Livingstone HAS spoken up for Maduro. Appallingly, he said the problem was the failure to execute the country’s “establishment elite”.
They can never just admit it, can they? This is where socialism always ends:
Bankruptcy at best. Oppression and murder at worst.
