Torrence Watson de-commits from Ohio State: Buckeyes lose 4-star SG

Torrence Watson, a 4-star shooting guard, has de-committed from Ohio State and reopened his recruitment, he announced Saturday.

“For personal and family reasons, I am re-opening my recruitment and potentially considering options closer to home,” Watson tweeted. “At this time, I will be declining interviews and ask that you respect the privacy of both my family and I. Thank you.”

Watson committed to Ohio State in June, and was the Buckeyes’ only commit in the Class of 2018. He’s rated as the No. 25 player at his position and the No. 4 Missouri player. Watson is entering his senior season at the Whitfield School in St. Louis.

He released a top 8 consisting of Missouri, Creighton, Marquette, Michigan, Vanderbilt, Gonzaga, Kansas State and Saint Louis in May before Ohio State came on strong to secure his commitment.

New head coach Chris Holtmann brought in three recruits in the Class of 2017, two of which (Kaleb Wesson and Kyle Young) are rated in the 247Sports composite top 100. He has some work to do to bring home that same result in 2018.
