UVA, Virginia Tech release 2017-18 basketball schedules | College Basketball

Last season, Virginia and Virginia Tech made the NCAA basketball tournament in the same year for the first time since 2007. Thursday, they learned the path they’ll have to travel to make it back.

The ACC announced its conference schedule, a slate that sends the Hokies on the road for three straight in the middle of February and has the Cavaliers playing away from home for three out of four games, starting in late January.

U.Va., which opens its season with a non-conference game Nov. 10 at home against UNC Greensboro, starts ACC play on Dec. 30 at home against Boston College. The Hokies, whose season also starts with a Dec. 10 home game against Detroit Mercy, gets going in conference play on Dec. 31 with a road game at Syracuse.

The two rivals meet Jan. 3 in Blacksburg and Feb. 10 in Charlottesville.

The Cavaliers went 23-11 last season, reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament where they lost to Florida. Their most challenging stretch tips off with a game at Duke on Jan. 27. U.Va. hasn’t won in Durham since 1995. Following a home game against Louisville, Tony Bennett’s club plays back-to-back road contests – at Syracuse on Feb. 3 and at Florida State on Feb. 7.

The Hokies, who went 22-11 and lost in the first round of the NCAAs to Wisconsin, have an equally if not more daunting section of their schedule when Buzz Williams’ team plays consecutive road games at Virginia on Feb. 10, at Duke on Feb. 14, and at Georgia Tech on Feb. 17.
