The Cleveland Cavaliers are in turmoil. That much is true, especially with the Kyrie Irving trade talk seemingly in purgatory at the moment.
But all this discussion and speculation over a LeBron James trade? Sorry, it’s not happening.
Sure, I know it’s fun to play with the ESPN Trade Machine and all that, but let’s quickly break down why there will be exactly zero trades that make sense for James:
1. He has a no-trade clause
This is probably where the trade talk begins and ends. ESPN reported there was no way James would waive that no-trade during the season no matter what happens, and we can see from Carmelo Anthony’s current situation that a clause like that in the NBA just means the player has all the power in that situation.
2. No one wants to trade for James if he’s leaving in a year
I don’t need to remind you that he’s a free agent, but here you go. And this isn’t like Paul George and the Oklahoma City Thunder, where the team might convince James to stick around if they find some success. There’s so much uncertainty as to where James might go next year that gutting your team’s future for one year of LeBron is a horrendous idea, especially for those teams who have a shot at signing James next summer.
3. The Cavaliers might still be good if Irving gets traded
Just because Irving is out doesn’t mean the Cavs will suddenly take a nosedive. What if Irving nets Cleveland Eric Bledsoe and some young talent or even Josh Jackson from the Phoenix Suns? You’re telling me a James-Bledsoe-Kevin Love-Tristan Thompson-Derrick Rose roster can’t win the Eastern Conference, even with the Celtics bringing in Gordon Hayward? C’mon.

4. It’s LeBron James
