AMARILLO – Xcel Energy is warning customers about another wave of scams.
The scammers are posing as a Xcel Energy customer agent, and occasionally even spoof a Xcel Energy phone number to make it appear as if they are coming directly from the company.
The caller will then most likely warn you that a serviceman is coming to disconnect your power due to a late bill.
They will then ask you to pay your overdue bill over the phone, often times by asking for a prepaid debit card.
Xcel wants to assure you that you will receive a disconnect notice in the mail before they come to disconnect your meter.
