Another week, another batch of great performances on the gridiron.

Here is the 5th installment of the American Family Insurance ALL-USA S.D. high school football players of the week.

It’s not necessarily the position that you want finishing with a standout performance, but Brody Surrell (Vermillion) punted five times for 213 yards against Madison. For the No. 1 Bulldogs, Josh Giles (Madison) threw for 208 yards. Jaxon Janke (Madison) caught five passes for 101 yards.

Jamin Arend (Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan) posted 130 yards on 11 carries, while Dustin Weber (Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan) added 119 yards in a win over Elk Point-Jefferson.

This is a fun statline: Jacob Cihak (Avon) had four carries for 107 yards and three touchdowns. That’s an average of 26.8 yards per carry.

Kaleb Crownover (Bon Homme) notched five sacks, two fumble recoveries and an interception. Josh Schmidt (Bon Homme) had a pick-6 and Colin Adams (Bon Homme) returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown.

Jazz Dominguez (Chamberlain) threw for 172 yards and a touchdown in a 17-7 loss to Groton Area.

Nine carries is all it took for Grayson Flurey (Clark-Willow Lake) to rack up 122 yards in a 50-0 win over Wilmot.

Quarterback Jayden Johannsen (Washington) completed 15 of 30 passes for 251 yards and five touchdowns in a 45-7 rout of Mitchell.

Kade Groos (Colman-Egan) had a pick-6 and Trey McKnight (Colman-Egan) recoverd a fumble in a 47-13 win over Estelline.

Devon Heuer (Arlington/Lake Preston) rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns, while teammate Gavin Holland (Arlington/Lake Preston) finished with133 yards and a touchdown in a 48-8 win over Oldham-Ramona/Rutland.

Trey King (Irene-Wakonda) recorded 622 all-purpose yards in a win over No. 2 Howard. King found Brendan Sokolowski for the game-winning touchdown with 34 seconds remaining.

Plenty to get to from Dakota Valley’s 42-41 OT win against Tri-Valley. First, from the winners: Jevin Kratz (Dakota Valley) made the most of his two receptions, racking up 100 yards and a touchdown. He also punted five times for 152 yards (30.4 average), with a long of 51. Zack Poulsen (Dakota Valley) completed 5 of 10 passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Austin Carter (Dakota Valley) had 13 total tackles, 1.5 went for a loss. For the Mustangs, Landon Freeman (Tri-Valley) logged 18 carries for 177 yards and three touchdowns. Teammate Noah Jewett (Tri-Valley) completed 12 of 15 passes for 186 yards and a couple of scores. Cade Falor (Tri-Valley) had 2.5 tackles for a loss.

Daymein Lucas (Sioux Valley) logged 32 carries for 151 yards, while teammate Tyler Schwartz (Sioux Valley) finished with 123 yards on 20 carries.

Gregory rolled past Rapid City Christian, with Andy McCance (Gregory) throwing for 135 yards and three touchdowns and Jeremiah Beck (Gregory) logging 13 tackles.

Braiden Petersen (Brandon Valley) continues to tear it up. It logged 19 carries for 193 yards and four touchdowns against Rapid City Central. Siegfried (Brandon Valley) caught three passes for 118 yards. He was on the receiving end of both of Thomas Scholten’s (Brandon Valley) touchdown passes.

ON PREPS: Observations at the midway point of the year

Tristan Pierce (Canistota) rushed for 219 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries against Viborg-Hurley.

A pair of Pheasants rushed for over 100 yards against Menno. Grant Plucker (Parker) logged 25 carries for 172 yards and three touchdowns, while Zam Centeno (Parker) finished with 126 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries.

Vincent Ramos (Waverly-South Shore) ran for 189 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries in a 27-12 loss to Tri-State.

Carson Rentz (Dell Rapids) completed 3 of 6 passes for 106 yards and a couple of TDs against rival West Central.

Carter Slykhuis (Tea Area) caught three passes for 115 yards and a touchdown) in a 34-7 win over Lennox. Tyson Stoebner (Lennox) logged 14 tackles.

Nate Varns (Roosevelt) caught 6 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Yankton. Garrett Tennant (Yankton) threw for 170 yards and rushed for 30 yards on five carries.

Bryce Williams (Hamlin) accounted for five total touchdowns in a 41-0 rout of Great Plains Lutheran. Williams completed 5 of 9 passes for 143 yards and rushed eight times for 67 yards.

Darrin Witt (Burke/South Central) shined on special teams and defense, returning a blocked punt for atouchdown and returning an interception for a touchdown.

Peyton Zabel (Pierre) 18-for-30 passing, 225 yards, four touchdowns. Pretty. Dang. Good. Zabel and the Govs will try to rally in the second half of their game against No. 3 Harrisburg on Tuesday.
