Our home is our castle, as the saying goes, and this Eugene abode took that literally. Set off of Rainbow Valley Road just outside of town, the home is colloquially known as “the castle” because of its crenelated roofline and honest-to-goodness tower. Fittingly, it also sits in its own little fiefdom: an almost seven-acre plot with two large outbuildings, a pond, and rare views to the east and west for taking in both sunrises and sunsets. The property is on the market for the first time since its 1999 construction.

Built by the owners of plastering company Mortar Sprayer, the home is constructed with a reinforced concrete product known as shotcrete, with a stucco exterior and an interior covered in natural plaster made of quartzite, lime, and white cement. The front façade is gently rounded into a main body and a tower, with crenels lining the roofline and an arched recess marking the front door.

Inside, there’s over 4,000 square feet of living space spread over a single level, with high, vaulted ceilings and thick walls defining doors, windows, and decorative niches, many with the repeating arch motif.

Through the entry hall, find a large kitchen, outfitted with custom curving counters and cabinets, and a dishwashing station positioned in front of a large arched window. The great room is accessed via a wide, arched doorway, and filled with light thanks to south-facing sliding glass doors and skylight. The terrazzo floors are paired with radiant hydronic floor heating throughout, but here they have a green and blue grid and starburst pattern, making for a colorful counterpoint to the soft white tones of the plaster.
In addition to the generous living spaces, there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, including a primary suite with its own sliding glass doors to the exterior and a clawfoot tub tucked into an adjacent alcove with rounded ceilings.

With so much acreage, the property includes two outbuildings with 1,000 square feet each, a pond, and a hilltop perch with east-west views. The real estate agent notes that it would be an ideal place for a future winery or Airbnb rental—just add a staircase to the tower to create the ultimate overlook, and guests will be king of the world.
