SOUTHGATE, Mich. – While a Downriver boy hasn’t even started first grade yet, he’s already making a huge difference in his community.
He is using proceeds from his pop-up lemonade stand to raise money for the Wyandotte Animal Shelter.
Henry’s Lemonade is not your average stand. He has had numerous people lining up Wednesday (June 22) to get a taste of something sweet, which is also going towards an excellent cause.
“I need one glass of lemonade,” said the male customer.
Six-year-old Henry Bryant was hard at work on the first full day of summer.
The sweet tasty treat is $1 a cup, with every cent going towards the dogs.
“Some dogs are struggling right now,” said Bryant.
The Wyandotte Animal Adoption Center is saving more lives because of Bryant’s big ideas.
Bryant said his first two lemonade stands generated $1,000.
He said he dropped off the money at the shelter himself.
“We’ve gotten to see some of the dogs that were just rescued with Henry one time when we were down there,” said Henry Bryant’s dad Michael Bryant. “And then two weeks later (we) came back and got to see that dog again and see how well it been.”
The poster seen in the video player above shows how the money that was raised was spent. They sit proudly displayed next to the flavors of the day.
“All the dogs I saved were heartwarming,” Henry Bryant said.
“For a mom, it makes you really proud,” said Henry Bryant’s mom Shelley Bryant.
His mom put the word out on Facebook’s Downriver and Friends Community Page.
When it seemed things were slowing down, a crew of bikers rolled in for their relief from the heat.
“Thank you for being such an amazing little guy that you’re looking out for the animals,” said one biker.
The Mayor even stopped by for a taste.
Henry Bryant had raised $994.66 for his local shelter when it was all over.
It’s fantastic to see community support and rally around something like this that benefits the pets at the shelter, especially this time of the year when we’re overflowing,” said Tom Abraham of Wyandotte Animal Adoption Center.
Many people believe in Henry Bryant, which prompted Southgate to honor him for his work next month.
