Oil softens to $82 a barrel on Fed rate decision, ample supply outlook

Oil prices declined on Thursday as investors assessed the likelihood that the U.S. Federal Reserve might delay an interest rate cut until December, alongside a rise in U.S. crude and fuel inventories. By 1207 GMT, Brent crude futures had dropped by 60 cents, or 0.7%, to $82 a barrel. Similarly, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) U.S. crude futures decreased by 68 cents, or 0.9%, to $77.82 a barrel. Both benchmarks had previously gained nearly 1% in the earlier session.

PFS, promoted by PTC India Ltd, is a non-deposit-taking NBFC classified as an infrastructure finance company.

Sideways Nifty getting primed for sharp move. Here’s how to trade on Friday

After making a new all-time high of 23,481, Nifty ended the Thursday expiry day 76 points higher to form a small negative candle with a minor lower shadow.

The short-term trend of Nifty continues to be a range bound with positive bias. Previously, such sideways range movements at the higher tops have eventually resulted in a downward correction in the market from the highs. Nifty continued to face stiff resistance around 23400-23500 levels and immediate support was at 23280 levels, said Nagaraj Shetti of HDFC Securities.

Open Interest (OI) data showed that on the call side, the highest OI was observed at 23,500 and 23,700 strike prices. On the put side, the highest OI was at 22,800 strike price.

China stocks drop amid growing trade frictions with EU

China’s stocks declined due to concerns over Europe’s increased tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, intensifying economic anxieties. However, Hong Kong’s shares rose following record highs in U.S. and global markets. The European Commission’s announcement of additional tariffs, reaching up to 38.1%, on Chinese electric cars from July triggered apprehension. While leading Chinese electric car manufacturers like BYD, Li Auto, and Geely Auto experienced rebounds, the punitive measures highlighted escalating trade tensions between China and the West, casting uncertainty over Chinese exports.

At the close, the Shanghai Composite index was down 0.28% at 3,028.92.
The blue-chip CSI300 index was down 0.51%, with its financial sector sub-index lower by 0.41%, the consumer staples sector down 1.53%, the real estate index down 2.06% and the healthcare sub-index down 1.09%.
The smaller Shenzhen index ended down 0.62% and the start-up board ChiNext Composite index was weaker by 0.091%.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index was up 174.79 points or 0.97% at 18,112.63. The Hang Seng China Enterprises index rose 0.98% to 6,421.81.
