‘Does he follow boxing?’ – Gervonta Davis’ pound-for-pound list leaves fans baffled with Oleksandr Usyk a glaring omission
Gervonta Davis has ranked his top five pound-for-pound boxers.
But some fans insist it is ‘the worst list in the history of boxing’.
‘Tank’ was asked to provide his rankings during a sit-down interview with PPV.com ahead of his upcoming clash with Frank Martin on Saturday night.
After initially placing Canelo Alvarez on top, Davis paused for a moment, before switching the Mexican superstar with himself.
At No.3 he had David Benavidez – who is moving up to light-heavyweight to face Oleksandr Gvozdyk on the same card as Davis vs Martin this weekend.
Meanwhile, two-weight undisputed champions Naoya Inoue and Terence Crawford completed the list at No.4 and No.5.
However, there was no place for heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk – much to the dismay of fans.
Reacting to Davis’ list, one fan wrote: “Where is Usyk?”
Another tweeted: “Does he not watch fights this a legit question.”
A third posted: “Probably the worst list in the history of boxing.”
Somebody else added: “One of the worst lists I’ve ever heard.”
Meanwhile, a fifth supporter asked: “Does Gervonta Davis follow boxing?”
Davis’ list looks very different to the esteemed Ring Magazine ratings.
While Davis doesn’t include Usyk at all, Ring Magazine have him as their pound-for-pound king ahead of Inoue, Crawford, Canelo and Artur Beterbiev.
The American boxing publication has Davis at No.8 but there is no place for Benavidez in the top 10.
Davis could rise further up the ranks if he can successfully defend his WBA lightweight title against Martin in his first fight back since beating Ryan Garcia last April.
Shortly after beating Garcia, Davis spent 44 days in a prison cell for violating the terms of a sentence for a hit-and-run car crash in November 2020 which injured four people.
However, he is now free to move on with his career after having his ankle monitor removed last year.
