Multibillionaire Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump have reached an understanding after a high-profile breakup over the Jeffrey Epstein case. Now Musk is ready to “settle” the dispute on the eve of the midterm elections.
The businessman is currently interested in allocating USD 100 million to the Republican Party campaign before the elections in the fall.
This is reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the arrangements.
The first signal of reconciliation was a trip to the People’s Republic of China, where Musk joined Trump, his family, members of the administration and heads of American companies aboard Air Force One. According to eyewitnesses, during the flight, the former allies communicated amicably.

Musk told Trump about plans to build new factories in the United States, and also discussed the 2024 presidential campaign with White House advisers. The main news was his decision to again financially help Republicans.
The businessman plans to direct at least USD 100 million through America PAC, an organization he created to support Trump during the 2024 elections. Its activities will be coordinated with MAGA Inc., which already has more than USD 400 million.
This is a sharp turn after the June conflict last year, when relations between Trump and Musk practically collapsed. The latter publicly accused the President of connections with the Jeffrey Epstein case materials, and the head of the White House in response threatened to terminate government contracts of the billionaire’s companies. At that time, Musk stated that he had spent almost USD 300 million to support Trump’s campaign, without which he would not have won the presidential election.
After the conflict, the US presidential administration began informal negotiations with Musk. Vice President JD Vance and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles tried to reduce tensions, and later Musk and Trump resumed direct telephone conversations. An important role in the reconciliation was played by Vance, who believed that a complete break with Musk would be dangerous for the administration, since SpaceX has critical contracts with the Pentagon and NASA.

The rapprochement was also influenced by allies on both sides, in particular Donald Trump Jr. and the president’s technology adviser David Sacks. A separate role was played by the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who until his death tried to restore contact between Trump and Musk.
A sign of reconciliation was the return of Musk to the White House, as well as Trump’s decision to re-nominate billionaire Jared Isaacman to the post of Administrator of NASA. At the same time, Trump, according to his aides, does not believe that their relationship will ever return to its previous level of closeness.
Musk himself, sources say, also has no plans to repeat his extremely prominent role in politics. He added that during the previous elections he “got too involved in politics” and “frankly, got carried away.”
Currently, the businessman and the 47th US President communicate about once a month. Among the topics are artificial intelligence, China and international events.

Despite this, according to the media, Musk’s help could become a solid resource for Republicans in the midterm elections, because for Trump, maintaining control of Congress is of particular importance. In the event of a Democratic victory, both risk being investigated by political opponents, and therefore both the US President and the businessman consider their relationship now “a new pragmatic alliance in which both sides have something to lose in the event of another breakup.”
