Government announces £6 million investment in truck stops for lorry drivers with some money heading to Lincolnshire
Truckstops in the county are set to get an upgrade to improve the lives of lorry drivers.
The Roads Minister has today (Monday, March 4) confirmed that 38 truckstops across England, including three in Lincolnshire, will get a £16.5 million investment with £6 million coming from the Department for Transport and the rest coming from the industry.
Cutts Transport Limited in Lincoln has received £29,375 from the Government to improve welfare facilities with the total cost being £58,750.
In North Lincolnshire, Immingham Lorry Park Ltd will receive £29,435 of Government funding, for improved parking facilities and Stallingborough Truck Park Ltd will receive £190,000 for improved welfare facilities and security, costing a total of £380,000.
It is hoped the investment will âsignificantly improveâ facilities for lorry drivers.
The upgrades will include new showers and restaurants, as well as better lighting and secure fencing around rest areas so drivers can feel safer and sleep with greater peace of mind. The measures will also create around 430 new parking spaces for heavy goods vehicles to free up local roads.
Roads Minister Guy Opperman said: âOur lorry drivers are the backbone of a successful economy, ensuring food, goods and crucial medical supplies can get where they need to be, all over the country.
âThatâs why itâs only right we leave no stone unturned when it comes to supporting our lorry drivers as part of our plan to grow the economy, and todayâs £16.5 million in joint Government and industry funding will provide them with the safe, spacious and modern facilities they deserve.â
Declan Pang, director of policy and public affairs at the Road Haulage Association (RHA) said: âWe are delighted to see the Governmentâs match funded grant scheme being awarded to projects which will make a tangible difference to the experiences of lorry drivers and provide much needed additional parking capacity to address the well-known shortage of spaces.
âWe are pleased to see facilities operators contribute funding and commit to improving security and conditions at the sites they operate. We look forward to seeing the positive impact the funding will have across the range of projects.”
