Ex-WWE superstar’s insane 50-pound shred has to be seen to be believed as surprise weight loss method revealed
Former WWE superstar-turned actor Dave Bautista has opened up on how he managed to shed a whopping 50 pounds via one training method.
Bautista is best known for his epic 20-year stint in the WWE, where he was a two-time WWE Champion and four-time World Heavyweight Champion.
His first World Heavyweight Champion reign lasted a staggering 282 days, cementing his status as one of the wrestling promotion’s biggest superstars.
Bautista left the WWE in 2010 but returned in January 2014, only to depart five months later.
He made his second return to the company in October 2018 and lasted until Wrestlemania 35 in 2019.
The 55-year-old was also announced as a future inductee to the WWE Hall of Fame in December 2019, but he remains yet to be officially inducted.
Aside from wrestling, Bautista has carved out a highly successful acting career.
His big breakthrough came in 2014 when he appeared as Drax the Destroyer in the first instalment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
Bautista has since appeared in the second and third movies of the franchise as well as Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder.
Outside of the superhero genre, Bautista also appeared alongside Daniel Craig in Spectre, Blade Runner 2049, Dune and Dune: Part Two.
However, none of his roles required a physical transformation quite like the one he underwent for 2023 film Knock at the Cabin.
Speaking on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’, Bautista revealed he gained over 300 pounds for the role and had struggled to lose the weight after filming had wrapped.
In order to drop the weight, Bautista decided to fly out his friend and fitness trainer Jason Manly to Budapest, where he was filming the second instalment of Dune.
There, the two spent many hours grappling in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
According to Bautista’s Instagram, he has practiced Brazilian jiu-jitsu since 2010 and received his brown belt in 2023.
A brown belt is the fourth-ranked belt in the Brazilian jiu-jitsu ranks, ahead of purple (third), blue (second) and white (first).
Bautista was ‘shedding the weight off’ once he began grappling with Manly, although he conceded he couldn’t trim down in his midsection or face.
He also lost quite a lot of muscle in the process.
“But I’m OK with it because I just feel more comfortable,” Bautista said.
Outside of his time in the WWE ring and in front of the camera, Bautista holds a 1-0 record in MMA.
He beat journeyman fighter Vince Lucero via TKO in the first round on CES MMA’s first pay-per-view event in October 2012, but never fought again.
