Fake currency racket busted in Tamil Nadu | Chennai News
DINDIGUL: Dindigul police arrested a five-member gang, including a woman, for running a fake currency racket by printing counterfeit notes and circulating them.
The arrested have been identified as Ravi of Tiruchengode, Alagar and Veeramani of Virudhunagar and Sugirtharaj and Jenitha of Madurai.
On Monday night, the Ammainaickanur police were carrying out vehicle checks on the Dindigul – Madurai National Highway at Nagayagoundanpatti section near Kodai Road.They intercepted a suspicious minivan with the five accused. When police questioned them and checked the vehicle, it was found that the five-member gang was running a fake currency racket.
Police seized Rs 26,000 in fake Rs 100 currency notes, along with a colour Xerox machine and paper used for printing. All of the accused were arrested.
Dindigul district superintendent of police Dr A Pradeep told TOI that the gang members were caught when they were on their way to Virudhunagar.
“The gang appears to be operating on a small scale and were mostly using the printed fake currency notes to cheat people of money. The accused have some previous criminal cases against them,” he added.
Police sources said that a major suspect behind the fake currency racket, Tirupati of Virudhunagar, was absconding and further investigation was on.
