Kasargod, Jul 20: Fake currency notes are being circulated rampantly in the market at Kumble and nearby areas in the district. Merchants and the public are concerned as they are unable to distinguish the counterfeit notes from genuine ones.
Traders in Kalathur and Bamrana report being deceived with several counterfeit Rs 500 and Rs 200 notes in the past week by strangers. It is suspected that counterfeiters are most active in shops and outlets when customer traffic is high.
The fake currency notes have ‘Full of Fun’ printed in place of ‘Reserve Bank of India’. In all other aspects, the counterfeit notes resemble genuine ones, including the photograph of Gandhiji and the size of the note.
The public reports that these notes are often exchanged when they purchase Chinese sweets. With numerous complaints received, the police have initiated an inquiry.
