Newport Half Marathon 2024 best photos as thousands of runners pound the streets
Thousands of runners descended on Newport for the return of its annual half marathon on Sunday. Around 2,000 participants got involved in the Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon with people of all ages and abilities making their way around the 13.1-mile course and hordes of spectators lining the route across the city.
The route began in Usk Way near the University of South Wales at 9am, taking competitors out to Caerleon before they came back to the city centre. This year Stephen Derrett topped the leader board, finishing in just over an hour and eight minutes, while Lauren Cooper was the first woman to cross the line after an hour and 19 minutes.
But, of course, it’s the taking part that counts and there was no shortage of people trying their best in aid of charity. The popular race, which started in 2013, is a significant fundraiser for St David’s Hospice Care.
