Ryan Garcia blasts ‘haters’ who made new pound-for-pound list which omits him after Devin Haney win
Ryan Garcia is seemingly not happy with Ring Magazine’s new pound-for-pound list.
Prior to his victory over Devin Haney on Saturday night, the 25-year-old was not in contention to be ranked among the top ten fighters in the sport.
Haney however was placed at number seven in the top ten list.
This is due to the fact he had previously been the undisputed lightweight world champion, beat Vasyl Lomachenko, then moved up and outclassed Regis Prograis to become a two-weight world champion.
In a major shock last weekend though, Garcia floored Haney three times and outpointed him.
The result has caused Haney to be dropped from Ring Magazine’s new pound-for-pound top ten, but Garcia has not replaced him.
Instead, the three boxers below Haney have jumped up a position and Japan’s Junto Nakatani has entered in tenth spot.
Nakatani recently became a three-weight world champion, ruling at flyweight, super-flyweight and now bantamweight.
In contrast, Garcia is yet to win a world title as he missed weight for the Haney fight.
This meant he was ineligible to claim the crown despite his victory.
Ring Magazine Pound-For-Pound Top Ten
1️⃣ Terence Crawford
2️⃣ Naoya Inoue
3️⃣ Oleksandr Usyk
4️⃣ Canelo Alvarez
5️⃣ Artur Beterbiev
6️⃣ Dmitry Bivol
7️⃣ Errol Spence
8️⃣ Gervonta Davis
9️⃣ Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez
🔟 Junto Nakatani
Speaking on a Twitter space he hosted on Wednesday, after the new rankings were announced, Garcia said: “I beat Haney and he was pound-for-pound, therefore I should be pound-for-pound.
“But they won’t put me on that list because they’re haters.”
Garcia is likely not too far away from a place on the list after his big win, but it is not unusual for Ring Magazine to refrain from placing a fighter in the top ten based on one triumph alone.
Many fans and media will be watching to see what the 25-year-old does next before determining whether he should be placed among the best boxers in the world.
