A popular finance influencer has revealed how one simple change can save Aussies hundreds of dollars during the cost-of-living crisis.

Sydney woman Queenie Tan revealed that she had ‘ditched takeaways’ and invested in a Thermomix after becoming a new mum and that the results had been incredible.

‘It’s been a game changer since giving birth because it’s meant we haven’t had to rely on frozen meals or takeaways during the crazy post-partum period,’ she said.

‘By making my favourite takeaway meals in my Thermomix, I can satisfy my cravings without all the hidden nasties that make me feel guilty the next day.

‘I really do think it has saved me money in the long term… and it’s healthier too.’

New research by Thermomix distributor The Mix Australia and New Zealand found people are still splurging on takeaway, valuing convenience over saving money.

‘The trouble is, people don’t realise how much they spend on things like takeaways, which quickly add up,’ Ms Tan said.

‘While it may not seem like much in the short term, even saving $5 or $10 every week can make a huge difference in the long term.’

As people from all walks of life continue to feel the pinch, Ms Tan encouraged cash-strapped Aussies to consider what they might be able to cut out of their budget.

‘If you are a bit more on a low income, you might need to look at things like your ‘essential expenses, like “how can I save on transport costs?” or “how can I save on my housing costs”,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.

‘The wealthier people who have more discretionary expenses, like entertainment, might be looking to cut back in those areas.’

Ms Tan said people can find a little bit of wiggle room in their budget to try and save a bit of money here and there and that it can go a really long way.

‘I know it sounds like a lot of money but if you want to save $10,000 in a year, that’s actually $27.40 a day,’ she explained.

‘If you want to save $1,000 in a year, that’s only $2.74 per day.

‘If you can find ways to just move the needle a little bit in your budget it can really make a big impact.’

Ms Tan believes a lot of people are struggling as a result of the housing crisis.

‘I think it’s honestly a lot to do with housing… there was a report which said that we’re the second most unaffordable housing market in the world,’ she said.

‘When that takes up a lot of your budget there’s very little room for anything else,

‘It’s really hard for people but I would say, as tough as it is right now, there’s always hope.’
