Ed Miliband: Inchgreen investment opportunity for Inverclyde
The party’s shadow secretary for energy security and net zero highlighted the project, which hopes to attract global blue-chip firms to the area, as he visited Peel Ports Clydeport alongside Labour leader Keir Starmer.
The MP said he and Sir Keir had been interested in finding out more about the work being done at Inchgreen, which was part of the reason for their visit to Inverclyde.
Mr Miliband also praised the party’s local election candidate and his former colleague Martin McCluskey ahead of the national poll on July 4.
He said: “Projects like Inchgreen, which Martin has been championing, are really exciting examples of what can be done.
“That’s why we’re interested in it, it’s one of the reasons we’re here and Martin has been explaining some of the ideas behind it, but to make anything like that happen you need a Labour government.
“I have known Martin for more than a decade, he worked with me.
“If this constituency wants a powerful advocate who is going to be barging through my door and barging through Keir’s door on behalf of this community they couldn’t do much better than Martin.
“He’s advocating in a situation where we’ve got ideas about how we want to drive forward and reindustrialise and it can benefit this constituency.”
