Actress secured million-pound property that is ‘wonderfully quiet’

Joan Collins is a pivotal figure on London’s celebrity scene and has been a resident of one of the city’s most affluent areas for over 30 years.

The actress shot to fame after landing the role of the vengeful scheme Alexis Carrington Colby in the soap opera ‘Dynasty’.

An article published last year put Joan Collins’s current home in London’s popular area of Belgravia.

The actress reportedly lives in the West London area with her theatre producer husband Percy Gibson, where she secured her property for £3million.

Publishing Business says the area is “not only renowned for its architecture but also for the historic garden squares which provide the landscape setting for the terraces of houses”.

It adds: “They provide a haven for locals, a wide variety of wildlife and boast some rare and exotic plants.

“The lush planting of Belgrave Square gives no hint that it was asphalted over during the last war as a car park for military vehicles or that Eaton Square was given to air raid shelters and Dig for Victory vegetables.”

In a 2021 interview with My London, the actress mentioned having lived in the area for 30 years – 20 of which she’d spent by her husband’s side.

She reportedly secured her first flat in the area in the late 1980s, saying: “I looked at about 60 flats in London.

“I wanted to be in the West End and the theatres, and near to Chelsea. I love Belgravia, it’s wonderfully quiet.”

Known for its long rows of terraces, Belgravia is home to the city’s rich and affluent, with Rightmove stating that the average property in the area sold for £2.9 million over the last year.

It added: “The majority of sales in Belgravia during the last year were flats, selling for an average price of £2,426,520.

“Terraced properties sold for an average of £4,994,177, with semi-detached properties fetching £4million.

“Overall, sold prices in Belgravia over the last year were 100 per cent down on the previous year and 12 per cent down on the 2014, peak of £3,279,929.”

A large portion of the white stucco-fronted homes belong to the Governor’s Estate and were built by Thomas Cubitt in the 1820s.

Despite appearing very secluded, many of the green spaces in the area are open to the general public. Closer to Victoria Station are several gardens designated for locals and visitors.

“Belgravia Square is one of the most exclusive key-holder gardens in London, surrounded by embassies and diplomatic residences,” say the experts at Mooseys Country Garden.

Being at the heart of one of London’s richest parts means Belgravia is the height of elegance, and this is clearly reflected in its architecture.
